Well Done to everyone who took part in the night hike!
It was a fine but cool evening when we met up at Silchester church on the eveing of 7th November. We left Silchester just before 10pm and started making our way back to Shinfield, a journey over 10 miles by foot. Spirits were high and we made good going along the Devils Highway, where quite a few scouts were surprised by a bird that took flight just above their heads!
We stopped for a hot drink at about midnight, then again at about 2:30 for hot food and a well earned rest. During the small hours the sky remained clear with the temperature dropping to about 3 centigradeas the mist came in.
Starting again at 3:30 on the last and hardest leg of the journey we walked across more familiar ground approaching Shinfield before arriving at the hut on time at 5am were beds were quickly made and sleep ensued.
Many thanks go to the breakfast crew who arrived at 9 to provide a welcome hot meal before Rememberance parade.
